The Holland Happening
Holland Happening celebrates the Dutch heritage of Oak Harbor WA. This four day event has something for the whole family and is held each April over the weekend that originally celebrated Dutch "Kings Day".
The event kicks off Friday with a traditional Dutch dinner. This dinner is served from 5:30pm till 7:00pm in the First Reformed Church at a cost of $15.00. The uniquely Dutch menu includes Dutch split pea soup with ham, mashed potatoes with leeks and sausage, meatballs with gravy, applesauce, rye bread and Dutch doughnuts.
Thursday through Sunday visit the Davis Amusement Carnival. Thrill the whole family with rides, arcade games and more.
During the festival,visit the SKULPT a pop-up scultpure gallery that appears in historic downtown Oak Harbor the entire month of April. With over 40 artists represented through 200 unique pieces, this is a unique art walk. The works vary from small to immense. Take a stroll and enjoy art from 3 states and 2 countries.
On Saturday a town crier announces the start of the Holland Happening Parade at 11:00am. Pioneer Way is closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday. This makes room for the colorful street fair running and beer garden and live entertainment. Sunday is highlighted by wooden shoe races down a man made canal.
